Governor Tony Evers' 2021-2023 budget included a proposal to legalize adult-use marijuana and anticipates generating over $160MM each year in revenue. It is likely to get shot down as the state doesn't even have a medical marijuana program in place and is a Republican controlled legislature.
In April of 2022, a Wisconsin state lawmaker planned to host a public hearing on a medical bill she authored, although state legislators agree the likelyhood of it passing is not high.
Wisconsinities that contribute to The Badger State's $4B alcohol market will likely contribute to the cannabis market once it is legalized. Keep an eye out for the state regulators to adopt a medical marijuana program as a minimum to start reaping the sales tax revenue that is currently crossing the border to Illinois.
